West 'benefiting from IT outsourcing'
29/04/2008
The IT market in the west is being aided by the number of outsourcing deals taking place, according to IDC.
While the overall economy begins to simmer, it said, outsourcing will help to drive the IT sector this year, reports IT Pro.
Research manager at IDC European Services Research Laura Converso suggested that the segment will be highly important in 2008.
She told the publication: "The overall outsourcing market will exceed the size of project-based services by 2008 and will account for 42 per cent of the total IT services market by 2012."
And Ms Converso added that Western Europe will outstrip the US in terms of outsourcing deals by 2009 and become the biggest "geographic" area for these.
While the credit crunch will not be as damaging as it has been across the Atlantic, IDC contended, IT demand is still likely to falter in Europe.
This week, DMG Consulting stated that the hosted contact centre sector should also be popular in the next year because of the financial constraints being faced by companies.
