Virtual centres being trialled

A new trial being introduced by BT could see the fostering of the home working element of call centres.
The initial stage of the testing will see workers at a BT base in Thurso, Scotland, analysing technology to see if it would work in the home environment, reports the Herald.
Once this has been carried out, volunteers will be deployed in the home, taking on high-speed broadband capabilities.
Director of BT in Scotland Brendan Dick argued that the trend may well set a precedent for the overall UK based call centre sector.
"The Caithness pilot could herald major changes in work practices for BT and the wider contact centre industry," he told the publication.
Such virtual call centre piloting has benefited from a large grant handed out by the Highlands and Islands enterprise.
This week Scottish Water revealed that it is to outsource sections of its IT departments to BT.
