Outsourcing 'could fill IT labour gap'
31/01/2008
The rise of outsourcing could be aided by the current gap of skills in the UK, according to comments made by the National Outsouring Association (NOA).
And firms ought to fill up positions at the lower-skilled section of the industry fairly quickly, the organisation claimed.
Chairman at the NOA Martyn Hart stated that many individuals are dissuaded from the IT industry because of the image it has.
But the sector could solve these problems if it operates in a different way, the official remarked.
"The IT industry may rectify this image but this is a long-term project. So how can the IT skills gap be plugged in the shorter term? One solution is outsourcing and/or offshoring," he noted.
Skills that are compatible with fresh products and designs should be encouraged in the UK, as skills transfer to low-labour cost arenas, he added.
Recently, a business to business outsourcing deal was agreed between State Street and the financial body Pearl Group.
