Ericsson in fresh HP move

27/06/2008

A fresh outsourcing contract has been penned between Ericsson and Hewlett-Packard (HP) this week, which will be see the latter offering channels such as desktop support.

It is hoped that the extension to a deal that was created in 2003 will offer improved services for staff members and allow more flexibility, reports CBR.

While elements of the business including hosting and infrastructure will be handed to HP, data network capabilities will still be handled by Ericsson itself.

Chief information officer and head of Group IT at the firm Carl-Magnus Mansson suggested that many benefits will be possible as a result of the move.

"Our supplier has demonstrated it is the best-in-class provider and we are pleased to enter this long-term partnership," he commented.

He added that overall IT spending can also be significantly lowered, another positive to come out of the development.

This week, bookseller Borders stated that its new online arm has been the result of a number of outsourcing deals, something that could help it improve revenue.
