'BPO is challenging but expanding'

20/12/2007

A high number of organisations still underestimate the challenges posed by business process outsourcing (BPO), a new survey from Diamond Management & Technology Consultants has said.

Despite this claim, the firm stated that the BPO sector still undoubtedly has the capability to expand even further and that it will become even more streamlined.

Among the top five benefits that businesses cited when they claimed they want to engage in BPO, the freeing up of internal resources and enhanced efficiency were both present.

Diamond Global Sourcing practice principal Brian Tumpowsky noted that institutions are now undertaking a more measured approach.

"We see continued uptake for BPO services, both onshore and offshore, but buyers are approaching things with more hesitation than in the past," he commented.

More firms will want to get ahead of the competition with the use of "specific" departments it said, something that could include an inbound call centre.

With an number offices around the world, Diamond has about 600 members of staff.
